·  Level 1 - Concussion Rehab MedBridge Knowledge Track & Concussion Management & Rehabilitation Course

Concussion Level 1 MedBridge courses consist of five independent courses designed to enhance knowledge on the fundamentals of concussion. These courses will cover the epidemiology and pathophysiology of concussion as well as mechanism, recognition, and management of the injury. You will also review the VOMS and how to interpret findings as well as discuss other important aspects of the oculomotor examination, including pursuits, saccades, vergence, accommodation, and ocular alignment testing. Lastly, you will learn to assess balance and postural control in the post-concussive patient.

The Concussion Management & Rehabilitation Course is an eight-hour recording designed for our therapists who are looking to develop their skills in how to evaluate and manage a person diagnosed with a concussion or post-concussion syndrome throughout the lifespan. Using evidence-based research, you will dive deeper into the physiological aspect of the injury, explain the multidisciplinary approach on how to manage your patients, discuss the initial evaluation, and give examples of what treatment approach is best for the patient. The goal is to improve your confidence when faced with this diagnosis in the clinic as well as enhance your critical thinking skills to allow for better decision making, ultimately leading to positive outcomes of care.

Level 2 - Vestibular Rehab & Concussion Certification (American Institute of Balance)

This 30-hour course is geared towards the clinician interested in learning evidence-based management for both the Vestibular and Concussion (m-TBI) patient. This workshop is comprised of the Vestibular Rehabilitation Certification Workshop and a comprehensive Concussion Management module, consisting of evaluation and management tools for sports and non-sports related m-TBI. Evidence-based protocols will be presented, demonstrated, and practiced throughout both the online and live components of the course to ensure clinicians produce excellent outcomes.

Level 3 - Concussion Corner Academy

Concussion Corner Academy is a 12-week course designed for the working healthcare professional seeking virtual support, community, and mentorship with top educational leadership in the concussion sector. You will have independent study combined with virtual classrooms from world class clinician-scientists who are actively publishing and treating concussion patients. You will learn about the history of concussion and physical examination of the athlete and adult, how to build your referral network, managing the patient with persistent symptoms, and return to learn protocols.

Diagnostic Ultrasound Path

Level 1 - Introduction to Diagnostic Ultrasound

This course is designed to provide learners with the value of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS), real-time ultrasound imaging (RUSI), and ultrasound screening for medical referral (USMR). Upon completion of the course, you will have working knowledge of the value of diagnostic ultrasound as a special test in enhancement of, or as an alternative to, clinical special tests. Through a process of supervised and mentored lab experiences, you will gain an appreciation of the psychomotor skills (as well as the difficulties and frustrations) required in production of a valid and reliable image.

Level 2 - Foundations of Diagnostic Ultrasound

This course is a live course with an extensive online pre-lab experience that explores the foundational principles of musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS), real-time ultrasound imaging (RUSI), and ultrasound screening for medical referral (USMR). Upon completion of this course, you should be able to identify normal versus abnormal images, use ultrasound imaging as an “enhanced special test” to improve clinical reasoning, conduct a complete ultrasound exam of the shoulder and partial exam of salient anatomical structures of all other relevant joints/tissues for both MSKUS and USMR.

Level 3 - Clinical Integration, Case Studies, Case Presentation, Review & Certification

This course is a live course with an extensive pre-course experience focused on case reports and marketing of emerging skills in diagnostic ultrasound for the physical therapist with online peer review. It is followed by live case presentation, review, testing (both lab and theoretical), and certification.

Hand Therapy Specialization Path

Level 1 - Hand Specialization MedBridge Knowledge Track & Mentorship

Year one is an independent online program consisting of 45 MedBridge courses. This was designed to enhance knowledge of hand therapy and obtain certification in Orthopedic Excellence of the Upper Quarter. Level 1 also includes 4-6 weeks of initial mentorship with onsite meetings.

Level 2 - American Society of Hand Therapy (ASHT) Membership, ASHT Review Course, & Attend ASHT Annual-Meeting

The ASHT Hand Therapy Review Course provides a comprehensive review of the evaluation and intervention processes pursued for typical diagnoses in upper extremity rehabilitation. Particular focus is placed on clinical reasoning, case discussion, and evidence-based practice. The course provides an opportunity for active learning and application of hand therapy principles to facilitate retention of presented information. The course also offers a structured study approach to upper extremity rehabilitation that may serve as a means to prepare for the CHT exam. The ASHT Annual-Meeting emphasizes the hand and upper extremity therapy community coming together on issues that challenge and strengthen practice. ASHT is seeking a diverse pool of proposals that supports the meeting theme and related educational objectives. Educational objectives include research integration into clinical practice, effectiveness of interventions, delivery of service to diverse populations in a variety of settings, and research and educational methods in hand and upper extremity therapy.

Level 3 - Certified Hand Therapist* (CHT)

After attending the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation’s Philadelphia meeting, as well as performing the above tracks, the next step is to sit for the CHT exam. The exam is offered two times per year.

Industrial Services Path

Level 1 - Work Injury Management Certification

This certification course is designed to develop a foundation for the delivery of best practice work injury rehabilitation services. The course explores the unique nature of physical and occupational therapy practice in the workers’ compensation system and the roles of various stakeholders involved in the typical patient case. Successful participants will gain valuable knowledge to immediately apply to clinical practice.

Level 2 - Intro to Functional Capacity Evaluation Certification

This certification course is designed to develop competent and confident functional capacity evaluation providers. You will review the structure and application of functional capacity testing skills to design advanced work rehabilitation programs (work conditioning/work hardening and other relevant clinical testing processes), post-offer and pre-placement screens, and disability evaluation. You will also learn the theory and practice of functional capacity testing with foundations human performance/biomechanics, vocational rehabilitation, the Americans with Disabilities Act Title I, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s enforcement guidance on medical examinations.

Level 3 - Work Injury Prevention Services Certification

This certification course is designed to develop employer-based injury prevention program service providers. It has three sections: job analysis, post-offer and pre-placement test, and work risk analysis.

Manual Therapy Specialization Path

Level 1 - MedBridge Knowledge Track- Orthopedic Manual Therapy

This OMT MedBridge Knowledge Track is designed to expose PTs and PTAs to the foundations of orthopedic manual therapy. This is an excellent program that is self-paced for the working clinician.

Level 2 - Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT)

The Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy program is grounded in the principles of autonomous practice and orthopedic manual therapy skills to address neuromusculoskeletal patient conditions. There are two foundational courses; the first is medical screening, differential diagnosis, and management of the sensitive nervous system, and second is introducing a clinical reasoning approach to address neuromusculoskeletal conditions from both a local mobility and global stability perspective. The program expands beyond teaching manual therapy skills to applying skills to normalize movement through neuromuscular activation, acquisition, and assimilation of function and a systems approach to orthopedic manual therapy assessment and treatment. This provides context to learning Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) that meets the requirements of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists (AAOMPT) and the International Federation of Orthopedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT).

Level 3 - Fellowship in Manual Therapy

OMPT Fellowship program is designed to not only prepare master clinicians, but future educators in OMPT and leaders within our profession.

Mentor to Teach Path

Option 1 - Certification in Hybrid Learning (EIM)

The Certification in Hybrid Learning program is an online, three course certification that will provide current and future faculty with the knowledge, skills, and mentored experiences needed to effectively teach and mentor students in hybrid learning environments. Topics will range from hybrid teaching theory, course development and design, to implementation at the entry and post-professional levels.

Option 2 - Fellowship Teaching Assistant

Through Pivot’s variety of fellowship opportunities, participants are exposed to teaching opportunities and assigned a teaching mentor to facilitate continuous growth as a healthcare educator. Pivot also has many internal course options that provide great opportunities to become an instructor and teach your peers.

Option 3 - Physical Therapy School Adjunct Faculty Path

Through Pivot’s vast university partnerships, we have developed a path to become part-time adjunct faculty for physical therapy programs. Universities are seeking to partner with excellent Pivot clinicians who have their APTA board certification in orthopedics, neurology, or others areas of specialization. This clinician has the opportunity to become adjunct faculty and teach DPT students as a lab assistant in their area of expertise. Orthopedic, neurologic, and other specialty content is woven throughout all courses in this hybrid program to enhance learning so that there are many opportunities to teach throughout the program. The candidate must be an APTA Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics or Neurology.

Option 4 - PhD in Physical Rehabilitation Science

The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science offers a formal part-time program leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physical Rehabilitation Science (PRS). The primary goal of this program is to develop independent investigators who will advance the field of rehabilitation science research.

Movement Health Specialization Path

Level 1 - Functional Movement Screening (FMS), Level 1 & Level 2

Movement is the universal language of human expression. Understanding the how and why of moving well helps us aspire to move often. FMS Level 1 uses objective and validated standards to check the movement baseline and build foundations for lifelong movement success. Therefore, certified professionals can discover the best opportunities to improve movement and identify how to train with purpose and precision in order for individuals to achieve their fitness, sports performance, or return from injury goals. The FMS is the screening tool used to identify limitations or asymmetries. It measures seven fundamental movement patterns that are key to functional movement quality in individuals with no current pain or known musculoskeletal injury. FMS Level 2 provides an opportunity to take results learned from FMS Level 1 and apply program design and exercise selection to improve your client’s fundamental movement baseline.

Level 2 - Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Level 1 & Level 2

This course teaches the movement based diagnostic system and provides healthcare professionals with an efficient and systematic tool to reach a comprehensive movement diagnosis. The SFMA is a clinical assessment for those who experience pain. It is a movement based diagnostic system which systematically finds the cause of pain - not just the source - by logically breaking down dysfunctional movement patterns in a structured, repeatable assessment.

Level 3 - Functional Movement Systems Fellowship

The Functional Movement Systems (FMS) Clinical Fellowship program is designed to educate and develop world class specialists who influence and elevate the musculoskeletal healthcare profession.

The FMS Clinical Fellowship challenges fellows to not only embrace the traditional view of evidenced-based rehabilitation, but also to integrate the whole-body movement and musculoskeletal health perspective. During this structured, mentor-based experience, FMS fellows will interact with FMS founders and other systems experts to become highly skilled, evidence-based, movement-oriented professionals who promote lifelong musculoskeletal health and wellness.

The FMS Clinical Fellowship allows you to work with faculty to develop your individualized yearlong educational plan to meet your goals. This program will incorporate mentoring, evidence-based courses, and learning alongside your peers in a virtual small group setting.

Myofascial Techniques Specialization Path

Pivot Physical Therapy offers several myofascial and trigger point courses and programs. Our core program is the Dry Needling Certification Program in partnership with Myopain Seminars and Dr. Jan Dommerholt.

Option 1 - Trigger Point Dry Needling Certification* (Myopain Seminars)

Dry Needling Certification program: DN-1, DN-2, and DN-3 courses with theoretical and practical examinations leading to the distinction of “Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist/Dry Needling” or CMTPT/DN.

Option 2 - Manual Trigger Point Release course (Myopain Seminars)

The Myopain Seminars Manual Trigger Point Therapy course program consists of two courses: MTT-1 and MTT-2. During the course program, students will learn the detailed anatomy of over 100 muscles and various treatment techniques that are immediately applicable in the clinic. This course series is open to all PTs, PTAs, ATCs, and Personal Trainers.

Option 3 - Facial Manipulation Course* (Eureka Seminars - Stecco)

The FM 1aH - Fascial Manipulation® 1 hybrid course mixes 13 hours of online learning (Level 1A) and an in-person three-day course (Level 1B) involving instruction and application of the Stecco Method of fascial manipulation. This course series is open to all PTs and PTAs.

Optimal Aging & Function Specialization Path

Level 1 - Intro into Optimal Aging, Functional Evaluations for Seniors, Modern Management of the Older Adult (MMOA)

Level 1 is great for any and every clinician working with the older adult population. Get familiar with common factors that impact patient care, or get some new ideas via the Modern Management of the Older Adult (MMOA). We want our clinicians to be clinically excellent, especially with advocating for our older adults in the community and promoting the Functional Evaluation for Seniors. Intro into Optimal Aging is a MedBridge knowledge track that covers different concepts and treatment strategies to consider when working with the older adult. The Functional Eval for Seniors is a screening tool that is used to proactively help the older adults in our community preserve and promote optimal functional participation, and safety in their ADLs and recreational activities of choice. MMOA I is an 8-week live online course designed for rehabilitation professionals who want to elevate their clinic skill set in the management of older adults. The size of this population is growing rapidly, and unfortunately the desire to manage them with cutting edge evidence-guided treatment has lagged well behind. Too often we see our older adults getting under-treated, both with exercise and manual therapy, apparently as a consequence of both fear and ignorance.

Level 2 - Geriatric Certification — (EIM)

The Geriatric Certification is a 12-month program that provides PTs and OTs with an evidence-based curriculum that advances clinical skills and competency in the areas of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for the aging population. It is a hybrid program that provides participants with both online and in-person opportunities to develop clinical skills sets and elevate their career.

Level 3 - Geriatric Clinical Specialist (APTA Board Certification)

APTA Specialist Certification Program can open new doors for you as a professional. Gain the formal recognition you deserve for your knowledge, experience, and skills!

Orthopedic Specialization Path

Pivot Physical Therapy provides post-professional clinical and didactic education in two unique residency settings to match your residency training needs with your current life and work circumstances. Through ongoing clinical supervision and mentoring with a theoretical basis for advanced practice and scientific inquiry, you will improve your clinical practice and decision-making. Pain Science Specialization Path

Level 1 - PNE+ MedBridge Knowledge Track

Level 1 Pain Science is designed to give participants a foundation and introduction into pain science and the research that supports its use clinically. This knowledge track is assigned by the Clinical Excellence Team and is completed independently.

Level 2 - Therapeutic Neuroscience Education

This three-week online course is designed to update learners on the latest evidence and clinical application of Therapeutic Neuroscience Education (TNE) for patients in pain and is 16 CEUs. Current best evidence has shown that neuroscience educational strategies utilizing neurobiology and neurophysiology are able to reduce pain, increase function, reduce fear and catastrophizing, improve movement and change cognitions and brain activation during pain experiences. Therapeutic neuroscience education changes patient beliefs regarding their pain, thus reducing the threat of pain. This class will discuss the evolution of TNE, why neuroscience education is needed in physical therapy, and more importantly, the clinical application and implementation of TNE for patients with acute, sub-acute, and chronic pain.

Level 3 - Therapeutic Pain Specialist

Therapeutic Pain Specialist (TPS) is an interdisciplinary pain certification, open to various licensed health care providers, including physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and others. The six-month certification is designed for working professionals who want to advance their career and improve patient outcomes, but also who need flexibility to work around their professional and personal responsibilities. Coursework is completed online and features didactic and collaborative experiences as well as two weekend intensives.

Level 4 - Pain Science Fellowship

The Fellowship in Pain Sciences provides advanced assessment and treatment for people suffering from pain. Fellows will gain exceptional understanding of pain mechanisms and their impact on the pain experience, and enhance their clinical decision making through thorough consideration of bio-psycho-social factors. The Fellowship in Pain Sciences fosters a community of first-in-class clinicians and equips them to revolutionize care for patients with complex or chronic pain. The program utilizes a combination of online and hands-on instruction to allow working clinicians to enroll and complete an advanced level of training while maintaining their professional and personal lives in a time frame of 12-24 months.

Pelvic Health Specialization Path

Level 1 - Pelvic Floor (Herman & Wallace)

This course provides a thorough introduction to female pelvic floor function, dysfunction, and treatment interventions. This course is geared to the therapist who wants to synthesize the information and apply it to individual treatment programs for urinary incontinence or the musculoskeletal components of urogynecologic pain syndromes such as chronic pelvic pain (CPP), vulvar pain, and interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS). This continuing education seminar teaches evaluation and treatment interventions by instructional assessment of the pelvic floor muscles with internal examination and SEMG biofeedback assessment.

Level 2A - Pelvic Floor (Herman & Wallace)

Participants will learn how to evaluate the patient who presents with bowel dysfunction including fecal incontinence and constipation, and also with defecation disorders such as paroxysmal puborectalis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and fecal urgency. Knowledge of pelvic anatomy expands into the gastrointestinal system with detailed instruction about the rectum and anal canal, anal sphincters, and with instruction in important physiologic principles such as the gastrocolic reflex, sampling response, and intrinsic defecation reflex. There are other conditions that can cause pain or bleeding such as hemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, and proctalgia fugax; the clinician will learn how to apply skills of external and internal pelvic muscle assessment (via the anorectal canal) for these conditions.

Level 2B - Pelvic Floor (Herman & Wallace)

This three-day (8 hours of online content, plus 2-days of in-person learning) intermediate-level continuing education course further defines skills and knowledge learned in the foundational Pelvic Floor Level One course. Specific, advanced examination techniques such as pelvic muscle mapping and interventions including down training of overactive muscles is instructed. With a specific focus on urogynecologic conditions including prolapse and pelvic organ descent, various pelvic pain diagnoses, and abdominal wall rehabilitation, the participant will be able to learn specific skills to treat these conditions that have a significant negative impact on a woman's health. Evidence-based references and case studies will be presented for a thorough understanding of current medical evaluation and management of each condition.

Level 3 - Pelvic Floor Capstone

This course is designed to build on the skills learned in Pelvic Floor Levels 1, 2A, and 2B, and covers advanced topics in women’s health including endometriosis, infertility, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Day one lecture includes discussions on the endocrine system and an advanced discussion on pelvic anatomy, focusing on connective tissues (organ ligamentous support and the endopelvic fascia). Day two lecture and lab topics include surgery complications and gynecological cancers, as well as the role of pharmacology and nutrition in pelvic health/pelvic pain. Labs include hands-on manual therapy techniques to address complications from surgery or oncology treatments. On day three, participants will have the opportunity to discuss case studies and complex patients with the instructors on the final day of the course.

Level 4 - Women’s Health Clinical Specialist (APTA Board Certification)

The women’s health clinical specialist demonstrates advanced knowledge in foundational science, behavioral science, clinical science, client management, and practice management in the realm of women’s health physical therapy.

PivotAL Leadership Path

Level 1 - Emerging Leaders Training (ELT)

This entry level leadership course offers a hybrid experience in training to become a clinic director for Pivot Physical Therapy. This program is six months in length and is designed to provide a foundation for leading and managing people. ELT also teaches key concepts to be a successful clinic director. You are assigned a mentor, either an area manager or top performing clinic director, who meets with them bi-weekly to discuss important topics driving the physical therapy business.

Level 2 - Advancing Leadership Training (ALT)

ALT is a training program for acting clinic directors that focuses on leadership, culture, and personal development. You are provided additional tools and support to more effectively lead and manage clinical staff. Concepts related to customer service, key performance indicators, performance enhancement and managing clinical profits and losses are incorporated into 90-minute monthly meetings.

Level 3 - Strategic Leadership Training (SLT)

Strategic Leadership Training is designed to be a collaborative experience that guides you in strategizing for success at the area and regional manager levels. Content includes presentations by internal leaders as well as experts outside of the company that challenges participants to take their leadership skills to the next level.

Running Specialization Path

Level 1 - Running Specialist MedBridge Knowledge Track & Case Study Completion

Level 1 Running Track is designed to give you a foundation and introduction to treating the running athlete and what to look for when evaluating them in the clinic. This knowledge track is assigned by the Clinical Excellence Team and is completed independently.

Level 2 - Rehabilitation of an Injured Runner (Institute of Clinical Excellence)

This eight-week interactive online course is designed for healthcare professionals who want to elevate their clinic skill set in the management of runners. Running is an efficient and effective mode of exercise, and thus one of the most popular forms of aerobic exercise. Unfortunately running-related injuries have a very high incidence. Too often injured runners are simply told to “stop running”, and thus they avoid the healthcare system. In this course you will dive deep into exploring misconceptions and laying out a clear, current best evidence pathway to enable runners to not only recover from their injuries, but continue to run while rehabilitating. Through online learning, case studies, community discussion, and weekly meetings the instructors interact with the cohort. A special emphasis is placed on gait (re)training to decrease load to the injured tissues and allow decreased pain with running.

Level 3 - Certified Running Gait Analyst, Level 1 & 2 (Run DNA)

Run DNA’s Level 1 discusses what to look for and how to prioritize what you find in running gait analysis. This course provides a foundation for understanding the root of a runner’s movement impediments. Level 2 takes a deeper dive into advanced gait retraining concepts, the role of power and strength, and how to address complicated cases.

Sports Specialization Path

Option 1 - Sports Physical Therapy Residency (Evidence of Motion)

The EIM Sports Physical Therapy Residency course is designed to for the clinician to advance the resident’s preparation as a highly skilled provider of patient care services in sports physical therapy. Ongoing clinical supervision and mentoring with a theoretical basis for advanced practice and scientific inquiry provides a framework for this program. Upon completion, you will exemplify clinical excellence in sports physical therapy and will be well-versed in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement for today’s athletes.

Option 2 - Sports Physical Therapy Certification (Evidence of Motion)

In EIM’s 12 month Sports Physical Therapy Certification, you will enhance the performance of your professional, amateur, or weekend warrior athlete by providing comprehensive care through prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Option 3 - Sports Certified Specialist Prep Course (Evidence of Motion)

EIM’s Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) Prep Course is a self-study program designed to prepare you for the SCS examination and stimulate your clinical practice. Specific topics related to sports physical therapy include sports science, acute injury and illness, injury prevention and return to sport, special populations, and environmental conditions.

Student to Specialist (S2S) Path

Pivot Physical Therapy’s S2S program is an advanced level clinical rotation opportunity for final year PT students with an interest in orthopedics. The student is paired with a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), who is their clinical instructor for the entirety of the program. This program is geared to prepare students for success in the outpatient orthopedic clinical setting and an eventual orthopedic residency program.

Vestibular Specialization Path

Level 1 - MedBridge Knowledge Track

Level 1 Vestibular Track is designed to give participants a foundation and introduction into Vestibular anatomy and physiology as well as identify disorders associated with the vestibular system. This knowledge track is assigned by the Clinical Excellence Team and is completed independently.

Level 2 - Vestibular Rehab and Concussion Certification (American Institute of Balance)

This 30-hour course is geared towards the clinician interested in learning evidence-based management for both the Vestibular and Concussion (m-TBI) patient. This workshop is comprised of the Vestibular Rehabilitation Certification Workshop and a comprehensive Concussion Management module, consisting of evaluation and management tools for sports and non-sports related m-TBI. Evidence-based protocols will be presented, demonstrated, and practiced throughout both the online and live components of the course to ensure clinicians produce excellent outcomes.

Level 3 - Vestibular Rehabilitation II Certification (American Institute of Balance)

Vestibular Rehabilitation II is an advanced, self-paced, 12-hour online course geared towards a differential diagnosis of complex diseases/disorders and management of the “chronic dizzy patient.” This course is designed for individuals who have experience treating vestibular patients or have taken an entry-level vestibular course. This course will delve deeper into vestibular dysfunction, psychological components, complex diagnoses, and rehabilitation techniques for complex case management. Following the completion of this course and satisfactory results on the examination, the participant will be certified in advanced vestibular rehabilitation.
